Day of Prayer and Reflection for Gaza Sunday 24th August.

The Catholic Bishops of Ireland call on all Parishioners to set aside Sunday 24th August as a day of prayer and reflection for Gaza and for a renewed commitment by the international community for a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.

The people of Gaza continue to be cruelly crushed by hunger, violence, death and destruction. Pope Leo has called for “a ceasefire, the release of hostages, and full respect for international humanitarian law.” As the Holy Father said, “Every human being has an intrinsic dignity bestowed by God Himself.”

Irish people across the country are deeply troubled by stark and horrific images from Gaza of starving children and helpless, hungry families.

Please join in this day of prayer and reflection. Light a candle in your family home or local Church; attend Mass, spend time before the Blessed Sacrament; pray the Rosary; make some small personal penance or sacrifice, and on that day let the light of hope radiate out from the island of Ireland for peace, for Gaza and for the future of its people.

Lately deceased: Martin McCrory, John Lagan, Josie Wilson, George McLaughlin, Eileen McGlinchey.

Altar Glen – will be getting a make-over in the near future – this will preserve our heritage and be a focal point for Parishioners and visitors as a place of prayer and reflection. Donations towards this project can be given to Fr Michael. Thank you.

Congratulations to the Tyrone Ladies who won the All-Ireland Intermediate Championship Final in Croke Park on Sunday 3rd August, winning the Mary Quinn Cup. By a nice coincidence that weekend was a Youth Weekend celebrating young people in the Jubilee Year of Hope in this Holy Year 2025. One million young people gathered in Rome with Pope Leo. What better way to celebrate here by lauding and supporting our young ladies on the field of sport and celebrating all that is good on and off the field. We especially congratulate those from our own Club and Parish, Clare Canavan, Maebh Corrigan, Aoife Horisk, Ellie McNamee, Michaela Moore and their manager Darren McCann and Damian Corrigan in the backroom team. Well done one and all!
