Blessing of the Graves: first of all, we must thank God for the dry weather at Dunmoyle, Ballymacilroy, Garvaghey Blessing of the Graves and at the Altar Glen Mass. It added to our celebrations of faith and remembrance of those who have gone before us. It also allowed us to meet up again after covid restrictions. As we prayed on those days – Lord, gather us together in heaven! As usual families and individuals flowered and dressed their family graves and also graves of neighbours who have no one living locally or no living relatives. This is an expression of love and honour of loved ones who have died and also a sign of faith and hope in the resurrection. Unfortunately, I am told that some graves have been tampered with – flowers and adornments removed from graves. This shows a lack of respect for deceased loved ones and desecrates holy ground and the resting place of loved ones. Please respect the sacredness of our graveyards and cemeteries. Thank you.

The Church of the Immaculate Conception, Ballygawley was opened in September 1983 – 40years next year. It is an event that should be marked and celebrated. At this early stage I am asking Parishioners for ideas on how we should do this.
Ruby Jubilee of Priesthood: to mark his jubilee Fr O’Dwyer will celebrate Mass in the Church of the Immaculate Conception on Sunday 4th September at 11am, with refreshments in St Ciaran’s Hall to follow organised by the Parish Pastoral Council. All welcome.
The Saturday evening (3rd September) Mass will be celebrated in St Matthew’s Church at 7pm.
Archbishop Eamon Martin has announced clerical changes to take effect on 4th September: some appointments are of interest to us: Rt Rev Mgr Colum Curry, PP, VG, Beragh, to be PE, AP, Kildress/ Lissan; V Rev Seán McCartan, Ardee & Collon, to be PP, Beragh; V Rev Oliver Brennan, PP, Kilmore, to retire; Rev Regi Meladath, on loan from the Archdiocese of Kottayam, Kerala, India, to be CC, Dungannon; Rev Colm Hagan, newly-ordained, to be CC, Donaghmore and Pomeroy; Rev Stephen Wilson, newly-ordained, to be CC, St Patrick’s, Dundalk, and Holy Redeemer, Dundalk.
The full list of changes and appointments can be viewed on the Archdiocese of Armagh website. You will notice that our Diocese had two newly ordained priests and two retirements. Also, a number of priests have come to us on loan from other countries. And Permanent Deacons have been appointed to town Parishes.
Pope Francis prayer for August is calling on Catholics to pray for small and medium-sized businesses, so that “in the midst of economic and social crisis, they find ways to continue operating, and serving their communities.” The Holy Father recognizes the “courage, effort and sacrifice” of small and medium-sized entrepreneurs, and acknowledges that they are among the most affected by “the grave socio-economic crisis,” brought to new heights by wars and the devastating Covid-19 pandemic. Pope Francis praises those who through their business “invest in life,” by “generating well-being, opportunities and work.” The Holy Father acknowledged their hard work and constant sacrifices made, in order to invest in the common good. “Without them, it would not have been possible to make it through the COVID crisis, and they continue to be necessary now. This is why it is important to pray for them.”
